New Rurouni Kenshin anime in the works

A Jump Square magazine snapshot that has been making the rounds indicates that a new Rurouni Kenshin anime is in the works. No details were given as to whether this new production is a show, OVA, or movie.

2011 marks the 15th anniversary of the original anime, which was based on the manga by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The initial sixty episodes followed the first seventeen volumes of the manga closely, giving viewers a relatively faithful look at the Tokyo and Kyoto story arcs. Unfortunately, Watsuki was still working on the third and final Jinchu arc at the time of the show's production, so the original story was dropped in favor of filler.

To this day, many fans are still disappointed that the anime effectively ended with the conclusion of the Kyoto arc. So, it is a forgone conclusion that most are hoping that this announcement means that their hopes for an animated version of the complete Jinchu arc will finally be realized.

I think this will be a reboot, FMA Brotherhood style, which includes the Jinchuu arc. I’m sure they are trying to appeal to a new generation of fans as well.

I wrote something on Saitou Hajime, who is one of the more interesting characters in the series. You can read it at: http://www.mangatherapy.com/post/4810051700/saito-hajime-retrospect

RK never got the proper anime ending it deserved, compared to other popular shonen series. This is really long overdue. Let’s hope for the best!
